Starting with Puzzle and Dragon, a new genre of mobile game exploded, and the collectible RPG genre became a prominent part of the mobile gaming scene. This genre is really only defined by the collectible aspect of amassing characters and units and it contains unique games and gameplay that would never exist elsewhere. Here is a list of top collectible RPGs for Android and iOS:

10. Dragon Coins

Dragon Coins starts off our list of collectible RPGs for Android and iOS. It takes Puzzle and Dragon’s formula, but substitutes a coin dozer game for the puzzle aspect in Puzzles and Dragons. This results in a fun little game that is coupled with a more casual and simplified approach to the fusing and evolving units. Dragon Coins is much less grindy than most of these games on the list. The only real con is that the gameplay is mostly based on how the coins and other things land on the board which is basically random chance. If you are looking for a simplified version of the collectible RPG genre with a unique gameplay aspect this is definitely the game for you.

9. Dragon Era Slots RPG Card Battle

Much like Dragon Coins this follows the Puzzle and Dragon formula, but substitutes a slot machine instead of a puzzle aspect.
Dragon Era‘s gameplay is quite simple, but the out of game mechanics and collecting is a lot more complicated than Dragon Coins. If you don’t enjoy puzzles or just like slots this is a great game to try out.

8. Terra Battle

Terra Battle is a game created by the great Hironobu Sakaguchi and ranks among the best collectible RPGs for Android and iOS.  It’s worth mentioning that Sakaguchi also created the Final Fantasy Series and Chrono Trigger, and this is one of the best games he has created on the phone market. Terra Battle’s gameplay mechanic seems very simple, almost too simple, but deceptively so. Terra Battle is definitely one of the best designed battle system this genre has to offer. This is also coupled with a good story and amazing soundtrack composed by
Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu. This game is a great addition to the genre and is a must pick up.

7. Marvel Puzzle Quest

This game should be a sure pick up if you are a fan of Marvel, however even if you are not this game still has solid gameplay. This game is available on Android, IOS, and PC, but I would recommend playing this game on a phone or tablet instead of the computer, as it feels quite clunky. This isn’t really a fault of the developers but rather the medium. Marvel Puzzle Quest is almost a textbook definition of a collectible monster RPG, but it has some differences in
gameplay like how the board and matching work. This game also has a 3v3 mode where you can team up with your friends and battle against other humans. This is something that is quite unique and not really implemented to other games.

6. Grand Chase M

Grand Chase M has a completely different style than other collectible RPGs for Android and iOS. It features real time gameplay that is engaging and fun while still being simple and easy to pick up. With
amazing animations and great character designs makes this a treat for the eyes. One reason this game isn’t as high on the list as it should be comes down to how much time is required to play this game. There are multiple time sinks spread throughout many game modes like story, pvp, wizards labyrinth,  ect. This game can really take hours and hours out of your day so be careful!

5. Summoner Wars: Sky Arena

Summoner Wars has almost nothing in common with
Puzzles and Dragons except for the collectible aspect. This game is one of the best of this genre and it shows by staying on the top grossing android charts for many years now. The gameplay is special in the way Grand Chase M is where the player is in full control of the game and everything is in real time. The team building and strategies has a lot of depth and will keep you playing for a long time.

4. Brave Frontier

Brave Frontier is a textbook collectible RPG that feels and looks like JRPGs of the past. It has a real nostalgic feel, and looks simple, but in actuality has a huge amount of depth. Team building and gathering units is especially satisfying because every single character has a special type of charm to them. The
gameplay is fairly simple, until the later stages of the game where strategy is necessary. This game is generous with its gems most of the time which allows you to get new units faster which is a major plus. Along with this comes an achievement system that allows you to quickly evolve and progress through the early levels smoothly. The achievement system gives out evolution materials that at early levels you would never be able to beat allowing an easier transition into the later stages of the game.

3. Game of Dice

Game of Dice is unlike every single game on this list. Of course there is still a collectible aspect to the game, but the gameplay is the main focus of the game. While most of the games on this list have you collect units to fight monsters, in this game they have you play Monopoly! That’s right, Game of Dice is a popular monopoly type of
game, but it has many unique features that make it great. Game of Dice has skill cards, special dice, and unique board features that allow much more freedom to play the game the way you want to play it. This game is very easy to pick up and it is a great way to kill time. Game of Dice came at number three in our list of best collectible RPGs for Android and iOS.

2. Puzzle and Dragons

Puzzle and Dragons is the creator of this genre and should be near the top of the list. This game was
revolutionary and spawned many, many games that tried to copy their formula and success. This game is the definition of easy to pick up hard to master. The puzzle portion of this game can be incredibly complex, but anyone with a brain can still get a few combos or two. There is a massive skill ceiling and that is what makes it so appealing. Another factor that really improves this game is the fact that it is constantly getting updated with new events, features, and units. This game is one of the deepest games on the app store and it can be very frustrating at some times, but if you can persevere you will find hours and hours of entertainment.

1. Monster Strike

Monster Strike holds the number one position in our list of collectible RPGs for Android and iOS. Although Puzzle and Dragons is the creator of this genre, I personally think that Monster Strike has something special that beats out Puzzle and Dragons. The ability to play with friends. Granted Puzzle and Dragons does have a co-op mode, Puzzle and Dragons is a game more suited for single player, after all it is a puzzle. Monster Strike has an amazing co-op feature which is a major selling point of the game. It has all the features a collectible RPG has along with engaging gameplay. Monster Strike is also heavily recommended due to the fact that it is an actual free game. These collectible RPGs require money or a lot of time to gather and collect the best creatures, but Monsters Strike gives you a ridiculous amount of Magic Orbs at the start and just throughout the game. I would heavily recommend Monster Strike, especially if you have friends to play it with, you will definitely not regret it!
