American singer Jessica Simpson found love the second time around when she got Bentley, an Airedale Terrier, just around the time that she started dating her current husband, Eric Johnson. It took a while for her to get over the loss of her first dog (more of this story later), but when she found Bentley, her love for dogs was rekindled. This dog breed originated in the valley of the River Aire in Yorkshire, England. It is the “King of Terriers” because it is the largest of the terrier breeds.

Basset Hound

“You ain’t nothing but a hound dog” is the famous line from the famous song of Rock n’ Roll King Elvis Presley. It shouldn’t come as a surprise then that his beloved Basset Hound inspired his song Hound Dog. Presley adored his pet so much that he was seen and photographed with the dog on many occasions. Undoubtedly, this breed is one the favorites of celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Clint Eastwood. This short-legged dog breed is a scent hound that was originally bred to hunt rabbits.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Tennis player Venus Williams is the proud owner of two Cavalier Spaniels. She can’t seem to get enough of their company that she takes them to court often as part of the cheering crowd. The little Spaniel is classified as a ‘Toy Dog,‘ and it can be traced in the United Kingdom. The breed is known for being friendly, affectionate and great with kids, although they need a lot of human interaction.

Chihuahua

Britney Spears and Paris Hilton are great fans of Chihuahuas. This breed may not be as famous as it once was, but its popularity in the celebrity world has not waned completely. Chihuahuas are still one of the most favorite lap dogs of pet owners. They are the smallest dog breed and named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua.

Cocker Spaniel

Famous TV personality Oprah Winfrey owned a Cocker Spaniel named Sophie for thirteen years. When her pet died, she paid a tearful tribute during her show to tell the world how her beloved Sophie made her a better person. Oprah’s love for her pet contributed to making Cocker Spaniel one of the most famous dog breeds in and out of the celebrity world. This breed is known for being active, sporty, and good-natured.

Corgi

The name means “dwarf dog.” Many rulers and royalties have preferred corgis since early centuries. No less than Queen Elizabeth II of Britain has owned over thirty Corgis in her monarchy. It all started when her father, King George VI, brought home the palace’s first royal Corgi pairs in 1933. From then on, Queen Elizabeth became one of the breed’s biggest fans. For the queen’s 18th birthday, she was a given a Corgi named Susan. The Corgi, which originated in Pembrokeshire, Wales is one of the smallest dogs in the cattle-herding dog breed. The Corgi is considered as an excellent working dog and ranked 20th in the list of most popular dog breeds in 2015.

This Terrier breed is small and has a reputation for fox hunting.

Labrador

Legendary music artist Elton John may be the owner of more than twenty dogs of different breeds, but he has a special spot for Labradors. This breed is the favorite of any dog owner, including celebrities, because of the dog’s friendly nature. Labradors have always been known to be very smart, great with children, and are excellent protectors. And for those who want to cuddle their pets, Labradors are more than willing to indulge you. As a working dog, the breed is the usual choice in assisting disabled people such as the blind and those with autism.

 Portuguese Water Dog

Former U.S. President Barack Obama and his family did not find it easy to pick the right pet for their home back then at the Whitehouse. Although they were set on getting a dog, they didn’t know which breed would be compatible enough for them, one that could blend well with their highly secured residence. In the end, the Obamas chose a Portuguese Water Dog that they named Bo. This breed is considered a working dog based on the American Kennel Club. Originally from Portugal, these dogs were trained to herd fish into fishermen’s nets, retrieve a lost tackle or broken net, and serve as couriers between ships. Now we know where their name comes from.

Yorkshire Terrier

Celebs love “Yorkies” because they’re small and cute. The Toy Dog was popularized by legendary actress Audrey Hepburn when she owned one named Mr. Famous. Still many years later, stars such as Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan, Orlando Bloom, Gisele Bundchen, just to name some, have been taking care of Yorkies and enjoying their role, as proud keepers. With the breed’s long line of avid fans, it is indeed one of the most popular kind among celebrities. Its roots can be traced to 19th century Yorkshire, England where the breed was used to catch rodents in clothing mills.

Owning a dog is as much responsibility as it is a loving experience. Any dog-lover out there would surely agree.
