A countless number of people view celebrities as role models. Few, however, know that the people they admire have a history of domestic violence. Compiled within this list are the names of several past and present personalities who have subjected their spouses to violence.  Some have admitted the charges against them. On the other hand, others were fortunate enough not to face incarceration because as they got by either making up or by getting a divorce.

Here are some of the figures who were involved in violent acts.

 Johnny Depp 

In 2016, Johnny Depp and his wife Amber filed for divorce after Amber even sought a restraining order against Johnny. The couple had been married for less than two years when Amber claimed Johnny smashed an iPhone on her face during an argument.

Sources within the police department have reported that the two had been fighting at their home in Los Angeles. Johnny grabbed Amber’s phone, asking her to call the cops. During the proceedings for the divorce, Johnny was absent.  Amber claimed she would be seeking spousal support. She displayed a facial bruise during the divorce. Johnny Depp’s spokesperson issued a statement that the actor will not respond to any of the false stories, gossip, misinformation, and lies about his life. 

 Michael Lohan 

Michael Lohan surrendered before the police just before Christmas in 2015. That was after her wife, Kate Major charged him with assault and battery.  Kate had reported that Michael had attacked her in October 2015. Michael had allegedly slapped her son on the face and also choked her. Their two children were taken away from them, and the incident has left the couple estranged. Until this moment, Michael is yet to be arraigned in court for his crimes.

Constantine Maroulis 

On August 12, 2015, the Broadway actor and former American Idol contestant Constantine Maroulis was apprehended in New Jersey on a charge of domestic violence. The mother of Constantine’s four-year-old child Angel Reed called 911 and claimed that Constantine had thrown her to the ground and kicked in the groin. The claim was in sharp contrast to the statement he gave. Constantine mentioned that he was only acting in self-defense. He added that he had a thigh injury, which could be proven. Despite his arrest, he was released within a short time.

Charlie Sheen 

Charlie, who was also the star of “Two And A Half Men” was arrested in 2009 on a charge of domestic violence. His wife Brooke Mueller accused him of trying to choke her. This was the second occasion when Charlie was apprehended as he also faced a similar charge in 1996 after attacking his girlfriend at his home. Charlie pleaded no guilty. However, it was later realized that he was a repeat offender.

Carmen Electra 

The famous star of “Baywatch” Carmen Electra was arrested in 1998 after a dispute with her husband the NBA star Dennis Rodman. Dennis also faced charges in the incident that allegedly began with a fight about viewing one of Electra’s ex-boyfriends on television. 

 Mel Gibson 

Mel Gibson pleaded no contest to a battery charge in 2010. His then wife, Oksana Grigorieva had pressed the charges.  Mel Gibson was also arrested in 2006 for driving under the influence of alcohol. The charge was associated with what is considered as the infamous anti-semitic tirade which Gibson made. 

Emma Roberts 

Domestic violence is not just the sole domain of male stars within the industry. Emma Roberts proved this when police arrested her for beating up her boyfriend, Evan Peters in Canada. The couple had starred “American Horror Story: Coven.” Roberts was perhaps still facing the after-effects of the show.

Sean Penn 

The Milk star and the husband of Madonna, Sean Penn was arrested for domestic assault. Sean had been to prison earlier and was incarcerated for 33 days after punching a photographer.

Dennis Rodman 

Violence and NBA seem to go hand in hand. Dennis Rodman certainly carries a lengthy history of homely violence. The police arrested him along his wife Carmen Electra during a domestic dispute in 1998. It looks like Dennis had no intentions of improving because he was again arrested on similar charges in 2003 and 2008.

Some of the most famous movie stars and sportspersons have been detained, charged and even faced incarceration domestic violence. The list of names available is lengthy and also includes musicians who are immensely revered. Therefore, it is evident that domestic violence is a common problem with famous celebrities.
